Suspected murder: Woman found dead in water sump; husband, mother-in-law arrested

Mysuru: A woman was allegedly found dead in the water sump of her house in Alanahalli on Tuesday. The Police, suspecting it to be a case of murder, have arrested the woman’s husband and mother-in-law.

The deceased has been identified as Mani (Basammanni), aged 34 and a resident of Ashraya Layout in Alanahalli. Her body was found in the sump at about 3 pm on that day.

Based on the complaint from Mani’s sister Parvathamma, Alanahalli Police, who have registered a case, arrested Mani’s husband Chowdappa and her mother-in-law Gowramma.

Mani and Chowdappa have two children. It is learnt that there used to be frequent quarrels between the couple over petty issues. A fight broke out between the  couple on Tuesday too, during which Chowdappa and his mother Gowramma murdered Mani and dumped her body inside the sump. However, they informed the Police that she had committed suicide, according to the relatives of the deceased.

The body of Mani was shifted to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday and the body was handed over to her family members.
