Mysuru: State Transport Commissioner B. Dayananda warned that if the vehicles’ silencers are modified then the RCs of such vehicles will be suspended.
He was chairing a review meeting of the district-level RTOs and ARTOs of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Kodagu and Mandya, here yesterday, for the first time in Mysuru at RTO West, after assuming office and said a few youth were modifying the silencers of their cars and two-wheelers. By driving or riding such vehicles with modified silencers, they were creating sound pollution. This also resulted in causing accidents and the noise level is so high that it is disturbing the peace of children, elders and the patients.
He directed the officers to confiscate such vehicles from the owners under the Motor Vehicles Act and suspend their RCs.
Dayananda asked the officers to strictly follow the rules while issuing DLs (Driving Licence) and FCs (Fitness Certificate) and whatever service the public demands should be catered to. The middlemen should not be entertained in the offices, he said.
He also asked the officials to follow the recommendations of the Police Department in taking strict action against violators of the traffic rules like signal-jumping.
Appreciating the achievement of the Transport Department in revenue collection as it had exceeded the target of Rs. 381 crore and collected Rs. 424 crore, he said that the region has achieved 111 percent collection in the financial year 2016-17. The Commissioner called upon the officers to keep up the good work.
He disclosed that the Government had appointed 11 RTOs and the vacant posts of Motor Vehicle Inspectors would also be filled up shortly through KPSC selection.
Meanwhile, the members of Jana Sangrama Parishat submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner highlighting the dangers posed by the tipper lorries in and around KRS in Srirangapatna taluk.
The State General Secretary Prasanna and Zonal Secretary Nagarle Vijaykumar, who submitted the memorandum, alleged that every day around 500 tipper lorries carry stones, sand and jalli from Pandavapura, Baby Betta, KRS Dam, Kaveripura and take it to Bengaluru. This has resulted in the weakening of the new bridge constructed near KRS dam.
The roads surrounding the villages in KRS, Railway Station Road, Hosahundi-Yelwal Road and Pandavapura’s rural roads are completely damaged because of the movement of the tipper lorries, they said.
Dayananda, responding to the complaints, asked the Mysuru and Mandya Police Joint Commissioner to take necessary action.
