Mysuru: A few of the unscientific data about Swachh Survekashan 2018 has come to light and people are anxious as to whether it could make a difference to Mysuru again.
Last year, Mysuru had slipped to the fifth spot. In spite of this, its performance was better than the other cities like Indore, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam and Surat, which were ranked higher than us. They got a higher rank because of the targets they had met in one or two points.
However, it was Mysuru, which had reached all the targets and only because of one or two failures, it lost the top spot. But a lot of confusion still remains. Is the city going to be deprived again, is the question facing everyone.
Mayor M.J. Ravikumar and Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner G. Jagadeesha pointed out the lacunae regarding the rankings published while downloading the Swachhata app at the meeting held yesterday at the Council Hall.
27,000 people have downloaded the app in the Corporation limits and many of them are using it actively. Out of this, only 18,000 complaints have been recorded and checked, they said.
However, in just ten apps downloaded, four are active and in that, 70,000 complaints have been registered and out of the usage of 156 apps more than 1.50 lakh complaints have been registered is what has been announced in the ranking.
According to the rules, only five complaints can be made on one app in a day. Hence, it is not possible to register thousands of complaints in four apps. One could download the app between April and December and register the complaints. However, even after the deadline, the facility is continuing. And, there is no clarity on this issue. “We registered a complaint with the Swachh Bharat Mission and received a reply saying that they would immediately rectify it. If they do not do it, we will write to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs again,” said Jagadeesha.
BSNL causing problems
Toll free no. 1969 meant for the citizens to give a missed call to participate in the Swachh Survekshan 2018 is causing problems. The BSNL users and even other service provider users are complaining that when they give a missed call, even after three or four minutes they do not get a reply. “We have written to the BSNL asking them to rectify the problem,” said Mayor Ravikumar.
