Mysuru: The Swachh Survekshan-2018 team, associated with Karvy Infrastructure Private Limited, which has been tasked by the Union Ministry of Urban Development, arrived in city last night to commence the assessment of cleanliness in city to ultimately adjudge the cleanest city in the country.
Four members of the seven-member team, who have come first, arrived at the MCC Office here this morning. The four officers — M.E. Chetan, Senior Observer; Ajay, Shweta and Chetan, Observers, were received by MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha.
They were led to the Old Council Hall where they began scrutiny of documents pertaining to quantity of waste generation, segregation, transportation, processing and disposal of solid waste, details of zero waste management plants, steps taken by MCC for cleaning the city and other related items. They were seen religiously verifying the documents cross-checking with a ready-reckoner check-list they had brought along.
The other three members of the team Mohammed Yunus, Co-ordinator, Karvy-Karnataka, Srinivas, Head, Karvy-Karnataka and Pooja, Observer, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, New Delhi, are expected to join the four members later in the afternoon.
The team was assisted by Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Jagadeesha, Health Officers Dr. Ramachandra, Dr. Nagaraj and Environmental Engineers of MCC.
Later in the day the team is expected to visit Solid Waste Management Plants, markets, public toilets and selected places in city to interact and receive feedback from residents on cleanliness aspects. It is learnt that the team should submit report on a daily basis to Union Ministry of Urban Development. The Swachh Survekshan team will be in city till Feb. 14.
It may be recalled that Mysuru had dropped to the fifth place in the last survey and this time the District Administration and the Mysuru City Corporation are making all efforts to regain the top spot, which it had bagged the first two times when Swachh Survekshan was launched.
