Mysuru: Asserting that Swaraj India party will field its candidate from Melukote Assembly segment in the forthcoming Assembly polls, Sunitha Puttannaiah, wife of late MLA K.S. Puttannaiah, has said she is very much familiar with the geography of the constituency.
Speaking to press persons at Jaladarshini Guest House here yesterday, Sunitha said she had accompanied her husband a number of times when he undertook a tour of the constituency.
Stating that the people of Melukote constituency were vouching for her contest in the forthcoming Assembly polls, she said that at the same time, there were also demands for the contest of her son Darshan Puttannaiah.
Maintaining that all the family members will be consulted before finally arriving at the choice of the candidate, she reiterated that neither she nor her son had got invites from other parties.
Ruling out joining the Congress, Sunitha said that however, Chief Minister Siddharamaiah has extended Congress support to the family.
Continuing, she said that the Bebi Jatra which was scheduled to end on Feb.21, was abruptly stopped due to the sudden demise of K.S. Puttannaiah on Feb.18. The Jatra saw the participation of 154 pairs Hallikar cow breeds and the best pairs among them were to be awarded prizes at the valedictory of the Jatra. But as the Jatra was stopped abruptly, prizes could not be given. However, the farmers will be felicitated at a programme to take place at Bebi Betta on Mar.16, she said.
