Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised a grand Karnatak classical vocal duet by famed Bangalore Brothers M.B. Hariharan and S. Ashok as part of T.V. Srinivasan Memorial music programme on June 16 (Sunday) at 5.30 pm at the Sabha premises on JLB Road here.
They will be accompanied by B.K. Raghu on violin, V. Praveen on mridanga and G.S. Ramanujan on ghata. The concert is sponsored by Nagalakshmi and Nagarajan Srinivasan.
The Bangalore Brothers have a bond that is strong, grown by long years of companionship. Both Hariharan and Ashok grew up in their respective homes, learning Karnatak music. Hariharan learnt vocal music from S.N. Srinivas Prasanna while Ashok took vocal lessons under R.Ramesh, D.S. Srivatsa and Vaidehi. He learnt mridanga from well-known percussionist H.S. Sudheendra. With first ranks in Vidwat exams, they studied engineering and received PG degrees in Music.
Meanwhile, Hariharan began accompanying Ashok to Sudheendra’s home and even he began learning mridanga and vocal music from Sudheendra. He also dabbled in khanjira.
