Taiwan-based Foxconn likely to set up unit in Mysuru

Mysore/Mysuru: Dodda Basavaraju, Managing Director (MD) of Karnataka Udyoga Mitra (KUD) under the Department of Commerce and Industries told Star of Mysore that there are indications that Taiwan-based Foxconn, known for assembling iPhones for Apple, is considering the establishment of a manufacturing facility at the designated site at Kadakola Industrial Area in Nanjangud.

Foxconn, in collaboration with Vedanta, is currently in the process of constructing an electronic goods manufacturing unit on a 300-acre plot in Bengaluru. Additionally, Foxconn has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of two more units, with estimated costs of Rs. 2,000 crore and Rs. 2,900 crore respectively.

One of these units is likely to be situated in Kadakola. The focus will be on producing raw materials required for mobile phone manufacturing. Notably, among all districts, Mysuru stands out as possessing the extensive land required for such significant investments. Consequently, it is highly probable that Foxconn will proceed with establishing its unit here. Company officials have expressed positive sentiments in this regard. Should Foxconn require more land, the KIADB is prepared to accommodate the demand. Already, KIADB has acquired approximately 404 acres of land around Kochanahalli, he said.
