Take back decision to withhold teachers’ salaries for poor SSLC results

Mysuru:  The government should take back the decision of withholding salaries of high school teachers due to poor results in the SSLC examination in the districts and instead make efforts to improve the quality of education, urged All Karnataka Teachers’ Federation State President K.C. Puttasiddashetty.

He was addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here recently and said that the State Government has come forward to withhold the salaries of teachers holding them responsible for not showing good results. This is an unscientific decision. This step is causing problems to the teachers.

Last year Mysuru District was placed 17th in the State and this year it has improved and now stands at 11. Next year, as the DDPI has intended the teachers have promised to work hard and see that the district is placed in top five in the State. In the light of this, the decision to withhold the salaries must be taken back, he said.

All necessary steps should be taken to improve the SSLC results. The announcement made by the Primary and Secondary Education Minister with regard to changing the examination pattern by introducing open book system is welcome. This move would result in students becoming creative, he said.

Puttasiddashetty said that the practise of appointing guest teachers must stop and instead permanent teachers must be appointed immediately. Otherwise, an agitation will be launched in front of the Law Courts near the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, he warned.

All Karnataka Teachers’ Federation District President K. Shivanna, Vice-President S.K. Nanjappa, General Secretary S. Dasappa Shetty, Organising Secretary C.S. Vasudevamurthy and Lokesh were present.
