Take measures to check spread of dengue: GTD

Mysore/Mysuru: With localities like Vijayanagar, Hootagalli etc., facing dengue threat, Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda (GTD) has asked the district authorities to take all necessary measures for ending mosquito menace and prevent the spread of the disease.

Speaking to press persons after visiting areas that are facing dengue threat, GTD said that he saw many heaps of uncleared wastes and unhygienic conditions at several places.

Pointing out that such unhygienic conditions are fertile grounds for mosquito breeding, he said that during his inspection, he came to know that a few people are getting treated for dengue at city hospitals.

Taking note of this, the district administration should take necessary measures for preventing any outbreak. “I have explained the situation to the Deputy Commissioner. Though a 22-year-old youth died of dengue and some others have fallen ill at K. Salundi village in the taluk, neither the MCC nor MUDA have taken any steps for checking the spread. The district administration alone is to be blamed if the authorities fail to take necessary measures for checking the spread of the disease,” he said.

Referring to the chlorine gas cylinder leak in the city that occurred a couple of days ago in which about 40 people have been affected, GTD said that the incident has happened because of the failure of the Police and other concerned departments.

He urged the district administration and the Police to take all measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future, before any major disaster could happen.
