Mysuru: The National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of University of Mysore (UoM) and Sambandh Health Foundation (SHF), Gurgaon, had organised a workshop on ‘Tobacco-free Youth’ at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangothri here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar opined that the youth should be aware of the ills of tobacco consumption.
He observed that children watch elders smoking and try to emulate when they grow up. Hence, he advised parents to shun smoking to set an example for their children. He said that tobacco can lead to many diseases which may set in late.
SHF Co-ordinators Gayathri Reddy, Somil Rustogi, UoM NSS Officer Dr. Chandrashekar, Dr. Mekhala Shwetadri of Narayana Hrudayalaya and others were present. On the occasion, Prof. Hemantha Kumar administered an oath to the youth to keep away from tobacco.
