Talented Athlete Reena George

Our city’s athlete Reena George, representing Karnataka, did everyone proud by winning bronze medal in the women’s 100m event of Inter-State Athletic Championships 2018 held at Guwahati on Friday. She was also part of the Karnataka women’s 4x100m quartet which won gold in the Championships. She is our ‘Star This Week.’

Reena, employed with Central Excise & Customs, Mysuru, won bronze in the 100m event of Inter-State Athletic Championships, with a timing of 11.77s. Dutee Chand of Odisha won gold with a new meet record of 11.32s. K. Ranga of Manipur finished second with a timing of 11.70s.

The Karnataka quartet of Apsana Begum, Reena George, P.J. Snepha and Prajna S. Prakash won gold in the women’s 4x100m relay event with a timing of 46.12s.

Reena, representing India in the Indian Grand Prix Athletics Championships at Netaji Institute of Sports Complex, Patiala, won silver in the women’s 100m event with a timing of 11.99s. Merlin Joseph won gold and emerged as the fastest women with a timing of 10.88s. Manvir Kaur secured third place (12.48s).

Reena won silver in 100m & 200m events of the 56th Open National Athletic Championships at Lucknow. She was also part of the gold-winning 4x100m Karnataka relay quartet comprising Apsana Begum, Prajna Prakash and H.M. Jyothi (46.52s).

In the Inter-State Athletic Championship at Hyderabad in 2016, Reena won one gold and two silver medals. She emerged as the fastest women of the meet by winning 100m event in style (11.99s).

She is an All-India inter-University medallist representing Mysore University. She also has represented Karnataka in Federation Cup Athletic Meet held at Mangaluru. She has won 100m gold, 200m silver in Dasara Games 2014, 2015 and has been performing consistently. She has trained under the guidance of former Intl. athlete and coach Damodar Gowda, Dr. Vasanth Kumar in DYES, Mysuru and Suman.
