Talented badminton player: S. Bhargav

Badminton is a very popular sport in the world sporting scene and India has been faring well in the international circuit.

The achievements of stars like Prakash Padukone, Syed Modi, Gopichand and now Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu, Srikanth have inspired many youngsters to take up this sport. Our city’s youngster S. Bhargav has done everyone proud with his feats in the junior level at the South Zone and State level. Bhargav won the boys U-19 singles and doubles titles. Representing Karnataka, he finished runner-up in the Team event of the South Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship 2019 at Kalaburagi. He is our ‘Star This Week’.

Bhargav is the son of K. Somasundara and R. Anitha, residents of Mysuru. Having taken up professional badminton, he is pursuing his education through open schooling format. Encouraged by his parents and the Mysore District Badminton Association (MDBA) and his coach, Bhargav has made steady progress in the sport and he is now the top player in the State junior level.

At the recently held Karnataka State Junior Championship in Udupi, Bhargav won the title in the U-19 Boys singles and doubles events. He reached the semi-finals in the men’s singles event.

In the state ranking tournament conducted by CUCT during August, this year, Bhargav finished runner-up in the U-19 boys singles and doubles events and entered the semi-finals in the men’s singles event.

Bhargav taking part in the Yonex Sunrise State Ranking Badminton Tournament held at KBA, Bengaluru in July this year, won the boys U-19 singles and doubles titles.

Encouraged by his parents, coach and S.G. Prabhu, this talented youngster has been making steady progress in this sport and has the potential to reach greater heights in the days to come.
