Cricket is a very popular game in our country and Mysuru also has its share of producing talented cricketers who have gone on to play higher level of cricket. On these lines is Mandya’s 16-year-old cricketer Kruthik Krishna who has impressed everyone with his excellent performances representing Karnataka in Vijay Merchant (U-16) this season. He is our ‘Star This Week.’
Kruthik Krishna, opening the batting for Karnataka against Kerala in the U-16 tie played at Hyderabad recently, scored 73 runs in Karnataka’s first innings, and was involved in a useful partnership of 58-runs for the opening wicket with Amod Skaluve (25) and later added 91-runs for the fourth wicket with N.A. Chinmay (77). Karnataka scored 350 in 98.2 overs. Kerala scored 146 and 198 and Karnataka registered an innings and four-run win.
In the earlier game, against Tamil Nadu, Karnataka gained the vital first innings lead and gained 3 points for the drawn encounter. Kruthik Krishna scored 35 and 13 n.o. for his team. Karnataka takes on Maharashtra at Vadodara on Jan.9, 2018 in their next tie.
Earlier, last month, Krishna led Mysore Zone U-16 team in KSCA Inter-Zonal U-16 Cricket Tourney in Bengaluru and emerged one of the top run-getter in the tourney. He excelled in wicket-keeping also.
Kurthik Krishna has represented Karnataka in Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 (2016-17). He performed well in the All-India level and also in the South-Zone league phases of the tournament. The excellent performances in the tournament has earned him a place in the South Zone U-16 squad for the annual coaching camp at Vaizag along with two other Mysuru Zone players L.R. Kumar and Saatvik Shamanur.
Kruthik plays for PET, Mandya in the KSCA Mysore Zonal league under the guidance of his coach Mahadev in Mandya. His stint with the KSCA Mysuru Zonal Academy and guidance from coaches at the Academy and the support from the Mysuru Zone has enabled him to improve his talent further.
A cricketer with the eagerness to learn, Kruthik aims to play higher level of cricket for the State in the days to come.
