Talented Kho-Kho Player: T. Praveen Kumar

Kho-Kho is a traditional game which is very popular in our country. Karnataka has produced many a talented Kho-Kho players and Mysuru city has produced many players of repute who have gone on to represent the State and country in different events.

One such talented player is Mysore University’s all-rounder T. Praveen Kumar. He played a big role in University of Mysore’s (UoM) win in both South Zone and All India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championships (2017-18) played in city from Jan.17 to 24. He is our ‘Star This Week.’

Praveen, 23, hails from Paduvarahalli, Mysuru. He is the son of Thammiah and Kamala, residents of Mysuru. A M.Com student at Manasagangothri, Mysuru, Praveen has represented Karnataka in the Senior National Kho-Kho Championships two times and was part of the Karnataka Senior team which won the silver medal in 2013-14 and third place in the Senior Nationals held at Telangana in 2015.

Praveen started playing Kho-Kho when he was a student at Bagini Seva Samaja in the middle school and later continued his passion for the sport by playing the game in High School at Sarada Vilas HS. He was encouraged by senior players like Yogesh of Pioneers SC to take up the game seriously.

Praveen represented State PU in the Nationals in 2011-12 and in the Junior Nationals in 2012-13 in Madhya Pradesh and won the silver medal. He has been representing UoM team for the last six years and in 2016-17, was part of the team which secured the third place in the All India Inter-University level.

An all-rounder, he excels with his quickness and dodging capabilities. Praveen intends to work hard in the coming days and climb greater heights in this sport.
