Talk by Alok Prasanna Kumar on ‘An Ice Age for Free Speech’

Mysuru: Mysore Open Forum has organised a talk on the topic ‘An Ice Age for Free Speech’ by Alok Prasanna Kumar, Co-Founder of Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Karnataka, on Sunday (Sept. 8) at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysuru, at 10.30 am.

Profile: Alok Prasanna Kumar graduated with a B.A. LL.B (Hons) degree from the Nalsar University in 2008 and obtained BCL from the University of Oxford in 2009. He writes a monthly column for the Economic and Political Weekly and has published in the Indian Journal of Constitutional Law and National Law School of India Review.

He has practised in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court from the chambers of Mohan Parasaran and currently co-hosts the Ganatantra Podcast on IVM Podcasts. His areas of research include Judicial Reforms, Constitutional Law, Urban Development and Law & Technology.

His lecture will examine existential threats to free speech from majoritarian polity, institutional apathy and  societal disengagement. It will draw on the speaker’s experience as a lawyer and scholar tracing the roles of the government in power, courts and civil society in bringing democratic and liberal values to the fore so as to preserve the spirit of a free society. The talk is open to all.
