Talk on Shyam Benegal’s Films at MOF on Sunday

Mysuru, Oct. 18- Mysore Open Forum (MOF) has organised a talk on ‘Appreciating Shyam Benegal’s Films’ by Maithili Rao, well-known Film Critic and Author, at 10.30 am on Sunday (Oct. 19) at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysuru.

Maithili Rao drifted into subtitling and writing on cinema after a brief stint as lecturer of English. From hobby to passion for writing on films was a natural progression. Fipresci India honoured her with Satyajit Ray Memorial Award, 2024, “for outstanding Contributions to Writing on Cinema.”

She is also the recipient of the Bimal Roy Memorial Committee’s Award in 2023 for her “perceptive and in depth analysis of Indian Cinema in general and the role of women as actors and creators in particular.”

Maithili Rao started as critic of foreign films for Sunday Observer and columnist writing on the images of women in Hindi films for Eves Weekly for over a decade. Then followed a rewarding freelancing career for Indian and international publications.

Shyam Benegal, film director, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker and often regarded as the pioneer of parallel cinema, is widely considered as one of the greatest film-makers post 1970s — Ankur, Nishant, Manthan, Bhumika, Trikal, Junoon, Kalyug, Samar etc.

The talk is open to all. For details call Mob:94498-19536.
