Mysuru: A talk on Women’s Mental Health (Mahileyara Maanasika Aarogya) in Kannada was given by Dr. Veena Bharathi (an alumnus of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute) on Dec.18 at B.M. Shree Hall, Bengaluru.
The function was organised by Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha, Bengaluru and sponsored by Department of Kannada and Culture.
Dr. Veena Bharathi spoke on the various stages of a woman’s life from menarche to menopause and how the hormones play a major role in the mood disorders of a woman especially after child birth.
The interactive session with the audience was very educative after a 90-minute lecture.
Vanamala Sampannakumar, President, Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha and Dr. Lakshminarayana, President of B.M. Shree Pratishtana, were on the dais along with guest speaker.
Dr. Veena Bharathi dedicated the session to her mother Laxmi Ashwath, Dr. Anupama Niranjana, Dr. Rajani Pai and Slain Air Hostess Neerja Bhanot, terming them as ‘Women of Substance’ who have shown tremendous resilience under exceptional circumstances.
She also recalled the balancing act which Prof. S.V. Parameshwara Bhatta had to go through to run his family, since his wife suffered from mental disorder from her late thirties.
