Mysuru: A Youth Parliament Contest for PU students of Mysuru taluk of aided PU Colleges was organised on Sunday by Vani Vilas Ursu Girls PU College in association with the Department of PU Education at the College premises here.
About 40 students from four PU Colleges in the taluk and city participated in the event.
Similar events were also held at Government PU Colleges in Lakshmipuram and on Chamaraja Double Road, for Government and Private PU Colleges respectively.
The contest featured on the members voicing opinion on continued harassment on women with the official machinery not able to tackle the situation.
Inaugurating the programme, DDPUE Dr. B.N. Nagarathna opined that such events help youth to understand the concept of Parliament. She contended that a good political system is essential for good economy.
She regretted that democracy has lost its definition with elections becoming a ritual and suggested that voters should exercise their franchise carefully.
Jayachamaraja Ursu Education Trust Hon. Member B.P. Balachandra Urs presided. Joint Secretary Sreekantaraje Urs, College Principal J.C. Anitha and others were present.
Totally 10 students will be selected at taluk-level to represent at district-level and two will represent the district at the State-level Contest, according to Programme Nodal Officer Dr. Mangala Murthy.
