This has reference to the article Taming our Traffic by Dr. Javeed Nayeem (Star of Mysore dated July 7) and I fully concur with the views expressed by him. Siddarthanagar, which was till recently a quiet place, has also turned into a hot place for such adventures by youngsters, particularly on Vinaya Marga, and on the road from Dairy to Lalitha Mahal Road.
His suggestion that Police should give priority to those offenders who endanger the lives of others is very apt. I had raised this matter many times in the last about four years with the Police officers directly while they were on the prowl for helmetless riders with no result.
Besides various such violations noted by Dr. Nayeem, using high beam light in city limits is another violation which needs to be punished. The Police use their energy in booking helmetless riders even after sunset. In my opinion after sunset, they have to target only those using high beam, as this could be done only after sunset.
During many such interactions with the Police, I have found that they have very little inclination to book such offenders. I used to interact with such offenders at traffic signals, and have found that most of them are not aware of the law in this regard. Traffic Police in Bengaluru have started booking such violations. I hope the Traffic Police of our city too will pay attention to it.
