Tap solar power for Dasara illumination in future

Sir,

There is no denying that the Dasara illumination in Mysuru captivates a vast number of tourists, adorning the city of Palaces with its resplendent lights. However, recent reports reveal that this year, a staggering 1.43 lakh units of electricity was consumed over 22 days for this dazzling display (as reported by SOM on Nov. 6).

As the tradition of illuminating Mysuru during Dasara is expected to continue in the years to come, it is now a crucial moment to consider harnessing electricity from sustainable sources, specifically solar power.

This approach not only serves the purpose of Dasara illumination but also promises to be a cost-effective and environmentally responsible solution in the long term. Moreover, the electricity generated can find utility in various other areas beyond the annual festival.

Therefore, it is essential for the authorities concerned to propose the necessary budget to the State Government for the implementation of solar power solutions. Space limitations are unlikely to pose a challenge in and around Mysuru for this purpose, making it a practical and forward-thinking initiative to ensure the sustainability of the city’s cherished tradition.
