Teach music for inculcating good culture: Jagannath Shenoy

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that children should be taught music for developing a good health, noted Industrialist Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy said that doing so will help in children evolving as better citizens.

He was speaking after being felicitated by Pandit Ramarao Nayak Memorial Swarasankula Sabha at a programme organised at Ganabharathi on Adichunchanagiri road in Kuvempunagar recently.

Calling upon the people to listen to music for maintaining good health, Shenoy, an art patron, said parents should provide music education to their wards in order to help them in becoming better citizens of the country.

Underlining the benefits of learning music, he said that music is so interesting that the children after  learning it for five consecutive years, will continue thereafter as well. This is the power of music, he said adding that ‘Music acts as a healer in traumatic circumstances’.

Senior theatre artiste Jayaram Patil said that those who learnt music at Veereshwara Punyashrama in Gadag have spread music far and wide across the world. Opining that the great music icon Panchakshari Gavai is responsible for this, Patil said that later on, Puttaraja Gavai continued the legacy of Panchakshari Gavai.

Pandit Veerabhadraiah Hiremath of Gadag’s Punyashrama is teaching music in Mysuru, he added.

Swarasankula President Dr. M.S. Bhaskar and others were present on the occasion.

Later, Vidushi Amritha Shenoy Kamath presented a Hindustani Classical Music concert.
