Teacher sentenced to life for rape and murder

Mandya: The District 1st Fast Track Court has sentenced a teacher to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping and murdering a girl student.

The accused, who was convicted is 52-year-old Kantharaju, who was running a tuition centre at Malavalli town.

In October 2022, Kantharaju lured a girl who had come to tuition on the pretext of giving her a chocolate, took her to the nearby conservancy lane and sexually assaulted her. He later killed the girl and had dumped the body in a water sump of an under construction house behind a bakery on Mysuru Road in Malavalli.

Malavalli Police, who had registered a case, arrested the accused, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge sheet to the Court. District 1st Fast Track Court Judge Manjula Itti, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused teacher guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Special Public Prosecutor V.S. Bhat argued on behalf of the Government.
