Teaching skills are of paramount importance to help students understand the subject matter better, said Dr. N. N. Prahallada, former Associate Professor in Education, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru while delivering a special lecture to the B.Ed Teacher Trainees of Vidya Vikas College of Education on Bannur Road here recently.
He said teaching is an art of effective communication. Teaching is a social act whereas learning is an individual act. Teaching depends on several factors like teachers interest, proper preparation, use of teaching/learning aids, providing democratic atmosphere, giving daily life examples to draw students attention to the subject taught, and understand the learning difficulties of students.
Her urged the teacher trainees to be more dedicated and appreciate the professional ethics and practice the same to bring name and fame to the teaching profession. An educated and enlightened citizenry are a greater defence to democratic country like ours. Therefore something substantial must be done to equip our student community to face the challenges of the new millennium, he said.
Apart from being a friend, philosopher and guide, the new millennium teacher should act as learning facilitator and diagnostician to assist students in their academic pursuits. Every individual is endowed with a fund of potential qualities and if these latent talents are cultivated they expand and progress towards perfection and if allowed to remain dormant, they lose their power of growth, he added.
Dr. Raja Gopal, Principal, Vidya Vikas College of Education, welcomed. As many as 70 BEd trainees attended. Bindu, Teacher Trainee, compered.
