Madikeri: In a reported incident, Congress MLC Veena Achaiah pleaded with Kodagu District In-charge Minister S.R. Mahesh to rescue people who are stranded in different parts of the district due to torrential rains.
Minister S.R. Mahesh and Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande were holding a meeting with officials and people, representatives at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here yesterday, when Veena Achaiah explaining the untold miseries caused to the district due to torrential rains, broke into tears and pleaded with Minister S.R. Mahesh to take immediate measures for rescuing stranded people, especially in hilly regions.
Questioning the Minister on why helicopters were not used for rescue operations at a time when stranded people were pleading the authorities to save their lives, Veena lashed out at the tardy rescue operations going on in the district.
Claiming that the people of Kodagu have risked their life to save other stranded locals, the MLC urged the minister to deploy NDRF teams for rescue operations.
