The indoor games in city seem to have got a huge boost with the inauguration of Teresian College Indoor Sports Training Centre here yesterday.
This is the sixth College in Mysuru to build an Indoor Stadium which was inaugurated by International Basketball Player Pavithra Chandra and Mysore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar at Teresian College in Siddarthanagar here.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC called upon the students to utilise the facility and win laurels for both the College and the University.
Former Bishop of Mysore Dr. Thomas Anthony Vazhapilly and Provincial Superior Rev. Dr. Sr. Juanita graced the occasion.
In the past years, several alumni of Teresian College have made their alma mater proud through extraordinary achievements in the field of sports at State, National and International levels. Now, to ensure that the tradition extends to indoor sports as well, the College has built a well-equipped Indoor Stadium at a cost of Rs.5 crore (Rs. 40 lakh was provided by the University Grants Commission). Basketball Player Pavithra Chandra is one of the alumni of the institution.
It may be mentioned that more than 40 sports stars, who passed out of Teresian College, have secured Government jobs in various Departments like Railways, LIC, Post and Telegraph, Police and Forest Department.
The Foundation for the Indoor Stadium was laid by Carmelite Education Society’s former Provincial Superior Rev. Sr. Fridoline and former Superior Rev. Sr. Rose on June 5, 2013.
The Sports Department of the College has already started Kabbaddi and Cricket Academy to cater to the needs of people from neighbourhood.
It has a spacious boundary of 32’’ width and 50’’ length to accommodate 250 students at a time. The College has facilities to conduct sports competitions like Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Tennis, Yoga etc.
This is the 6th Indoor Sports Stadium of Mysuru City. The other five Stadiums are at JSS College in Saraswathipuram; Maharaja’s College; Yuvaraja’s College; St. Philomena’s College and JSS College, Nanjangud.
