Theft at Yoganandeshwara Saraswathi Mutt: Police nab Seer’s helper

Mysuru: The K.R. Police have arrested Gururaj alias Gururaj Kulkarni, 35, on charges of stealing gold jewellery belonging to the Mutt, on Sunday last (Oct.13) and have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 5.10 lakh from the accused.

According to the Police, accused Gururaj had allegedly made away with gold jewellery used to decorate ‘Sri Chakra’ by the Mutt Seer Sri Shankara Bharathi Swamiji while observing Chathurmasa at the Japadakatte Temple Mutt in K.R. Nagar. After the puja rituals, the gold ornaments were kept inside the cupboard at the room where the  Swamiji stayed. 

On Oct. 5, Mutt’s Administrative Officer Anantha Padmanabha filed a complaint with K.R. Nagar Police stating that the gold ornaments were missing. Circle Inspector P.K. Raju, who took up the investigation, interrogated the Mutt employees during which Gururaj spilled the beans. Based on the information, the Police recovered the jewellery hidden at Gururaj’s house that was provided by the Mutt. 

Later, the accused, who was produced before the Court, was remanded to judicial custody.
