Theme-based booths create eco awareness

Mysore/Mysuru: Three theme-based polling booths have been set up in the city for Assembly elections today, which were the cynosure of all eyes. Apart from creating awareness on voting, they stand distinctly apart from others for spreading a green message.

The Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has set up Bamboo Polling Booth at Ambale Annaiah Pandit Government Higher Primary School, Chamaraja Double Road, falling under Krishnaraja Assembly Constituency, ‘Green Polling Booth’ at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Vijayanagar First Stage in the city, in Chamaraja Assembly Constituency and Booth with the theme ‘Rural Life’ at Government Higher Primary School, near Huliyamma Temple, Kyatamaranahalli, Narasimharaja Assembly Constituency in the city.

All bamboo based products like hand fan, basket and ‘mora’ (rice cleaner) among others have been used to design the Polling Booth at Ambale Annaiah Pandit Government Higher Primary School in KR Constituency. The voters can also click selfie at a dedicated spot after exercising their franchise.

At Chamaraja, BVB School wears a green look with ‘chappara’ made of coconut fronds at the main entrance greeting the votes, along with flower pots and marigold flowers used for decorating the premises. Here also selfie spot covered with coconut fronds has been erected.

The wall paintings inside disseminate messages on conservation of environment, judicious use of water, water cycle and save earth. The benches painted green and yellow add to the theme.

A Polling Booth at NR, has been decorated with clay pots depicting rural life, with drinking water also arranged in pots.

All the three Booths have been made ‘zero plastic’ with a total ban on using plastic materials, with the thrust on spreading a message against hazards of plastic on environment.

The common attraction in all these three booths is a flag with a message ‘Festival Of Democracy,’ hoisted in  the premises.

“All these innovative concepts have been incorporated with the intention of increasing voting percentage,” MCC SVEEP Committee Nodal Officer Nagaraj told Star of Mysore.
