Theme-based concert in city on Sunday

Mysuru: Renowned musician and music activist Dr. G. Baby Sreeram and her team Samarpana from Chennai will be paying tributes to Mysore Vasudevacharya by presenting a theme-based concert on his compositions at his heritage house in the city on Sunday (Oct.27). The nearly three-hour concert starting at 10 am is open to all music enthusiasts.

Profile: Born into a musical family in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Vidu. Baby Sreeram had her initial training under Ananthalakshmi Venkitaraman. She was later tutored by stalwarts Sangita Kalanidhi T.M. Thiagarajan and P.S. Narayanaswamy, under the Cultural Scholarship instituted by the Government of India.

She has completed her Ph.D in Music on the topic “An analytical study on Bhashanga Ragas” under the guidance of Dr. B. Pushpa, from Kerala University.  She received Grade-A from AIR in 1997.

Presently, she is a faculty member at The Madras Music Academy’s Advanced School of Carnatic Music. She has performed widely all over the country and overseas. She fosters a group ‘Samarpana’ for the students of music, which produces theme based presentations regularly and does quality research work on music. A team from Samarpana comprising Vidushis Sreeja Harish, Sumi Krishna, Sreela Krishnan, Asha Vijay, Priyamvada, Hamsa Murali, Sriya, Ragasudha, Banupriya, Smruthi Bhaskar, Shanthala Raju and Vidwans Reju Narayanan, Anil Kumar and Bharath Narayan will be participating in the programme at the legendary composer’s house on Sunday.
