Nanjangud: Theppotsava of Lord Sri Srikanteshwara Swamy organised as part of Dodda Jatra Mahotsava, was celebrated amid the cheer of devotees at Kapila river in Nanjangud on Sunday.
Devotees from various parts of the State who had descended on the temple town for Choornotsava Poorvaka Avabhrita Teertha Snana in the river, took a holy dip in the water in the morning and performed urulu seve, dhoopa deepa seve and offered silver articles in the hundi to fulfil their vows, before waiting in queue for the darshan of the presiding deity.
On account of Theppotsava, various puja rituals were performed along with Mahamangalarathi from the early morning hours, before allowing the devotees to the temple.
Later in the evening at 6.30 pm, the Utsava Murthy of Srikanteshwara, specially decorated for the occasion with diamond, pearls, gems and navaratna, was brought in a procession on a palanquin of pearls to Shastra Mantapa on the banks of river Kapila.
A team of priests, led by Chief Priest Nagachandra Dixit, performed various rituals to the deity, before the idol was placed on a motorboat modified for the religious occasion, with special illumination works. As per the ritual, the boat circumambulated in the river for three times.
Fireworks were the added attractions during the religious event. Police had made elaborate security arrangements as the devotees had gathered in large numbers.
Executive Officer of Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple Jagadish, Assistant Executive Officer Satish and others were present.
