They came to buy cigarettes but fled with gold chain !

Mysuru: Women shop-keepers, beware. Criminals might come to your shop to buy items and might snatch your expensive gold chain, like this incident where one woman became a victim to two chain-snatchers.

The incident occurred last evening at 9th Cross HanchyaSathagalli Zone B at a small shop manned by one Bharathi. At around 4.45 pm, two persons came in a Honda Activa scooter and parked the vehicle in front of the shop. One of the persons asked for cigarettes.

Bharathi obliged and handed over two cigarettes. Then he gave  a Rs. 50 note to her. Bharathi told them that she does not have change and even the duo responded that they too do not have change to pay for the cigarettes.

At this point, Bharathi bent over to search the inner compartments of the cash box displaying her gold chain that was worth Rs. 60,000. Sensing an opportunity, one of the persons snatched the chain and both the accused fled in the scooter. As it is a small shop, there is no CCTV camera at the entrance. Mysuru Rural Police have registered a case.

Enraged by the incident, villagers have accused the Police of not visiting the village for evening and night beat. The villagers said that there are no adequate streetlights in the village making it difficult for women and children to walk on the streets after dark.

They also alleged that many anti-social elements create a nuisance on the Ring Road and also trouble the people coming to their village.
