Bengaluru: State Health Commissioner D. Randeep has said that the third wave of COVID-19 is likely to wane by February-end. The peak of cases encountered will come down to the base level by the end of this month itself.
An overall decline in Covid cases in the country is expected by March. With Omicron dominating 90 percent of the cases and Delta being only about 10 percent, the rise and fall in cases being witnessed is the trend across the world, says the data released from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
“The overall disease epidemiology indicates that the epidemic is heading towards a stable situation. If newer variants of concern of SARS-CoV-2 do not appear in future, things may get well under control. A shift is being noted from the epidemic to the endemic stage,” Randeep said, asking people not to panic but exercise caution.
The projections indicate the situation will return to normal in the coming weeks and several restrictions across States would subsequently be lifted. For the past several weeks, India has been witnessing a third wave of Coronavirus infections, which had peaked last month. The latest wave was driven by Omicron, a highly-contagious variant that generally causes a milder disease.
