Thousands offer Pitru Tarpana at Srirangapatna

Srirangapatna: Thousands of people thronged Srirangapatna to offer ‘Pitru Tarpana’ to their ancestors on the banks of River Cauvery as part of Mahalaya Amavasya rituals, this morning.

Several spots in Srirangapatna like Paschima Vahini, Gosai Ghat, Cauvery Sangama among others witnessed people performing the ritual after taking a holy dip in the River Cauvery.

Pitru Tarpana is a Hindu ritual offering water, sesame seeds (til) and other items to the deceased ancestors (pitrus) to satisfy their thirst and hunger in the afterlife, express gratitude and appease ancestral debts.
