Thousands Pedal for Democracy

Former cricketer Javagal Srinath, Election Observer Suraj Kumar Gupta, SVEEP Committee Icon and singer Sriharsha, actor Dhananjay and MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag seen during the inauguration of ‘Pedal for democracy,’ a Cyclothon to create awareness on compulsory voting among people, held in city this morning.

Mysuru: MCC in association with SVEEP Committee and other organisations had organised ‘Pedal for democracy,’ a Cyclothon in city this morning to create awareness on compulsory voting among people.

Over 1,000 cycling enthusiasts of all ages took part in the event which commenced near Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple and passed through K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Ayurveda College Circle, Railway Station Circle, JLB Road, Metropole Circle, Krishnaraja Boulevard, Agrahara Circle, Hardinge Circle and culminated at Town Hall premises.

The Cyclothon was flagged off jointly by former cricketer Javagal Srinath, SVEEP Committee Icon and singer Sriharsha, actor Dhananjay and Principal District and Sessions Court Judge S.K. Vantigodi by jointly beating a ‘Nagari.’ Speaking on the occasion,  Srinath asked people to think twice and vote to choose an able leader. They further asked new voters to exercise franchise with full happiness.

Administering the oath to the participants, Vantigodi opined that in democracy voting is important to decide the future of the nation and regretted that voting percentage in urban areas continue to be very less compared to rural areas which should improve. MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath and others were present.
