Mysuru: For unavoidable circumstances ‘Ugadi Sangeethotsava,’ organised by Palace Board, which was put on hold for the last three years, got a revival yesterday. The three-day festival was inaugurated by Mayor M.J. Ravikumar last evening at Palace premises here. Singer Dr. Ajay Warrior and troupe rendered hits of old Kannada movies.
Singer Shashikala Sunil commenced with ‘Theredide Mane oh Baa Athithi’ followed by ‘Yuga Yugadi Kaledaru Yugadi Marali Baruthide’ welcoming the audience to the world of music.
Ajay Warrior rendered ‘Kannada Nadina Jeeva Nadhi Kaveri’, ‘Mamaravello Kogileyallo’ and many more describing the beauty of the State. Teaming with Shashikala, he sang a couple of duets. Singer Santosh rendered ‘Apara Keerthi Galisi Merava’ drawing a thunderous applause from the audience. The music ensemble comprised Akash on keyboard, Rajagopal and Pradeep on guitar, Sumukh on sitar, Roshan on rhythm-pad and Raghunath on tabla.
Earlier to that, Police Band presented Indian and western music.
MLA M.K. Somashekar, MyLac Chairman H.A. Venkatesh, Corporator B.V. Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner and Palace Board CEO D. Randeep, Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya and others were present.
The weekend plus a holiday is bound to draw a good lot of tourists to city, who having gone through the sight-seeing spots, can have a relaxed evening at the Palace listening to melodious music from 7 pm onwards.
Vidya Bhushan and troupe will present ‘Devaranamas’ this evening while Dr. Mysore Manjunath and Mysore Nagaraj will present a violin recital tomorrow.
