Three drown while swimming in lakes

Police and Fire and Emergency Personnel searching for the bodies of two persons who were drowned in Hatooru Lake near Terekanambi in Gundlupet taluk yesterday.

Gundlupet/ Nanjangud: In separate incidents, three persons, who had gone for swimming and for a bath at lakes in Gundlupet of Chamarajanagar and Nanjangud of Mysuru on Sunday, have been drowned.

Gundlupet: Two persons, who had been to a lake at Hatooru Lake near Terakanambi in the taluk yesterday afternoon, have been drowned.

The deceased are Tamilan (23) and his brother-in-law Nandeeshwara (29), residents of Uttavalli village in Chamarajanagar taluk.

Nandeeshwara, who had come to his in-laws house at Terakanambi, went to the lake for a bath along with Tamilan and two friends.

Though Nandeeshwara and Tamilan did not know swimming, they ventured into the water and were drowned, it is learnt. Their friends tried to rescue them but in vain and immediately  informed the Police.

The Police, who rushed to the spot along with Fire and Emergency Services personnel, launched a search to fish out the bodies. As it was getting dark, they stopped the search operation and resumed it this morning.

A case has been registered at Terakanambi Police Station.

Chamarajanagar: A 25-year-old youth, who had gone for a swim at Konanuru Lake near Kavalande village in Nanjangud taluk yesterday, got drowned.

The deceased is Abdulla, a resident of Mubarak Mohalla in Chamarajanagar. Abdulla, along with 15 of his friends, had gone to the lake for a swim yesterday.

It is learnt that Abdulla ventured into the water along with his friends but was drowned as he did not know how to swim. Meanwhile, Abdulla’s friends, who saw him getting drowned, reportedly fled from the spot out of shock and fear.

Meanwhile, Abdulla’s family members, Kavalande Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who rushed to the spot, managed to fish out the body from the lake and shifted the body to the District Hospital.

Kavalande Police have registered a case in this regard.

Residents express anger: Meanwhile, the residents of Kavalande said that many people come to the lake every day and dive into the lake from a place which is at the height of 25 ft.

Stating that there had been four deaths already, the residents alleged that none of the authorities concerned have taken steps to stop such dangerous activity taking place at the lake.
