Hunsuru: A sheep was killed and three other sheep have gone missing after a tiger attacked a flock of sheep which were grazing near Taragan Estate Goat Farm at K.G. Habbanakuppe in Hanagod hobli in the taluk this morning.
The incident took place when Maniyamma and Ramesh were grazing the sheep at Muttanna block near the Goat Farm. They managed to flee from the spot and reported the incident the owner of the Goat Farm.
This is the second incident of tiger lifting sheep, goats and other livestock near Taragan Estate. The carcass of the sheep was found near the spot.
Based on the complaint, Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) Veerabhadraiah and staff inspected the spot.
Panicked villagers demanded the authorities to catch the tiger which was frequently found along with three cubs near the Goat Farm. They said that the tiger had killed more than 12 livestock including sheep, goats and a wild boar in the last four months near Habbanakuppe in Nagarahole Forest limits.
Though the officials of the Forest Department had conducted combing operation to trap the tiger, they were failing to trap it.
It may be recalled that the Forest officials had rescued a tiger which was injured after getting caught in a snare near Shettyhalli Lakkapatna located very close to Taragan Estate and sent to a rehabilitation centre last week.
The villagers have sought the Forest Department officials to trap the elusive tiger to save theie livestock and also prevent man- animal conflict in the region.
