The translocation of Tipu Sultan’s armoury at Srirangapatna to pave way for the double-tracking work of the Mysuru-Bengaluru Railway line was completed yesterday at 4.45 pm. This is a spectacular engineering effort and is the first such in India. The shifting of the 228-year-old and 1,050-tonne Tipu armoury began on Mar. 3. The armoury was turned in “L-shape” yesterday morning and was shifted in the evening. The final destination of the armoury is 130 metres from the Railway track. Works including strengthening of the base will be taken up next.
