Madikeri: Taking strong exception to the Karnataka Government’s decision to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary on Nov. 10, the Tipu Virodhi Horata Samithi has called for a Kodagu bandh on Nov. 10. The decision was taken this morning at a meeting of the Samithi in Madikeri.
President of Tipu Virodhi Horata Samithi President Abhimanyu Kumar said that the entire district will close from 6 am to 6 pm on Nov. 10.
All the taluk headquarters will observe ‘Kuttappa Hutatma Divas’ on Nov. 10 to pay homage to Kuttappa who was killed in the violence following Tipu Jayanti celebrations at Madikeri in 2015.
He said that by celebrating Tipu Jayanti, the State Government was creating a fear psychosis among the people of Kodagu.
He appealed to all schools and colleges on that day to express solidarity with the people of Kodagu who have been ‘mercilessly killed and converted’ by Tipu Sultan.
‘Business establishments and coffee estates will shut that day along with auto and lorry unions to support the bandh, Abhimanyu Kumar added.
