To Vote or Not To Vote

Sir,

This has reference to TJS George’s article, ‘We need to get our India back’ (Star of Mysore dated Apr. 2). Here is a piece of information very disturbing (though very true) in his article that there are 1,580 (alleged) criminals sitting in the seats of power, in States and at Centre. Well, the elections to Lok Sabha are round the corner and George’s concern is very relevant. Weigh the VOTE or count the vote? But you must VOTE. With such characters contending, good stewardship is a mirage. BUT YOU MUST VOTE, because it is your sacred duty towards the nation.

Today’s political scenario can at best be described not as ‘Democracy’ but ‘Kakistocracy’ (a word coined in 17th century) which means a system of Government run by the worst, least qualified or most unscrupulous people. Or can we call it ‘Kleptocracy’ meaning rule by thieves. Yes but YOU MUST VOTE !

Is there a hope now or in near future of a rare kind of metamorphosis in the situation through election? We can’t lose hope.
