Mysuru: Accusing Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha of neglecting tobacco growers and failing to attend the meeting called to discuss the issues, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene will be protesting simultaneously in front of the MP’s residence and office on Nov.24, said KRRS and Hasiru Sene State President Badagalapura Nagendra, here yesterday.
Addressing press persons, he said that Pratap Simha had failed to attend the meeting called at Periyapatna and added that the MP did not even react to tobacco growers’ issue.
In an effort to apprise the MP on problems being faced by the tobacco growers, a protest has been planned at both the venues on Sunday, said Nagendra.
State-level Convention at Periyapatna: KRRS and Hasiru Sene will also hold a State-level Convention on Nov.28 at Periyapatna to discuss on scientific price for tobacco crop and dropping of unscientific taxes levied on farmers.
National-level Workshop in Bengaluru: Bharata Raitha Cheluvali, in association with KRRS and Hasiru Sene, will be organisation a two-day National Workshop in Bengaluru to discuss on International Trade Agreements and Agriculture, he said.
Farmers’ demands include the following:
• Minimum price of Rs.200 per kg of tobacco.
• All registered companies should take part in the market.
• Licences to all card holders.
• Importance to tobacco export.
• Free health check-up for farmers and labourers.
