Mysore/Mysuru: Accusing the Centre of pursuing anti-labour policies, the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions has called for a nationwide general strike on Nov. 26.
Announcing this at a press meet here recently, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) State General Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram said that the general strike has been called in protest against the Centre’s anti-labour and anti-people policies.
Claiming that most Trade Unions of the Country including Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), CITU, All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU), All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), Trade Union Coordination Centre (TUCC), Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat (HMKP), Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) and Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), have expressed their support for the nationwide strike, Meenakshi Sundaram expressed the hope that the Nov. 26 general strike will get transformed into a massive Movement across the country.
Sundaram also wanted the Centre to pay Rs. 7,500 per month to every family which do not come under Income Tax bracket and distribute 10-kg of food grains in the wake of COVID-19 crisis, to scrap voluntary retirement scheme and to shelve privatisation policy.
CITU Office-bearers K.N. Umesh, H.S. Sunanda, G. Jayaram and Balaji Rao were present during the press meet.
