An Awareness programme on Traffic awareness was held under the aegis of the Students Association for Road Safety at DAV Public School, J.P. Nagar recently.

The members of Mysore Traffic Warden Organisation, along with the KR Traffic Police, conducted the programme.

Speaking to the students, Dy. Chief Traffic Warden Subramanyam advised the students to ride motor vehicles only after attaining the age of 16 after getting a Driving Licence (DL).

He  said that if any accidents occur while they are riding the vehicle without DL, resulting in death, their parents will be penalised or may even result in them going to jail if they cannot pay the penalty.

He also invited the students to come forward to form a team of 30  for a march-past for which the traffic organisation would extend training and help to join the Independence Day/Republic Day/Dasara parades on behalf of their school under the SARS scheme (Students Association for Road Safety).

Siddaraju, ASI from KR Traffic Police Station, advised the students to strictly follow traffic rules and not to ride vehicles without a valid DL besides advising the students to guide their parents to drive motor vehicles wearing helmet, not to talk on mobile while driving, avoid signal jumping and to wear seat belt while driving car whenever they accompany them.

A video clippings of actual road accidents captured on CCTV cameras were screened with an intention to bring their mind how traffic violations would result to serious injury or death.

K.V. Ramanath, Traffic Warden, explaining about public participation in disciplining the traffic, wanted the students to take photo from their own mobile phone whenever they come across traffic violations and upload the same in the Police website and help the Police in nabbing the culprits.

More than 200 students participated in the programme.
