Traffic cops must accept “DigiLocker” documents

Sir,

A couple of days back, I was intercepted by the traffic cops and was asked to show original vehicle documents. After uploading my original driving license and vehicle RC book to “DigiLocker” I stopped carrying these original documents with me. But the Traffic Police feigned his ignorance about DigiLocker and refused to accept “DigiLocker” uploads. He insisted on seeing the original documents itself.

I politely informed him that the Central Government has asked all States to accept digital version of DL, vehicle registration certificate and other documents presented via DigiLocker or on mParivahan platforms.

When the Ministry of Road Transport has issued a notification stating that “digital DL, RCs from DigiLocker are legally recognised on par with original documents as per IT Act 2000 and valid under Motor Vehicles Act 1988, to be treated on par with certificates issued by transport authorities,” I am unable to comprehend why Traffic Police of Mysuru are not accepting this.

This has been implemented so that the motorists can avoid carrying the original physical copies of vehicle documents. I request the higher authorities in the Traffic Police Department to instruct their subordinates to accept digitally stored documents in the “DigiLocker” in lieu of original paper documents.
