Traffic rules violation: Why are Mysureans not concerned?

Sir,

The news of vehicle users of Mysuru city paying Rs. 23.6 crore as traffic fines for just     three years from 2019 to 2021, which included lockdown periods, indicates the extent of traffic rule violations (Star of Mysore dated Mar. 19, 2022).

Thus, Mysuru city secured top rank in traffic fines among all tier-2 cities in the State.

Certain road users are not concerned about their safety and that of others. It may not be due to lack of awareness, but negligence and carelessness about road safety.

A maximum number of those violations, like not wearing helmet/seatbelt, not following no parking rule, triple riding, minor driving, using a mobile phone while riding, driving in the wrong direction in one-way roads, drunken driving, using defective/wrong number plates, etc., are avoidable. Still, road users do not bother about coughing money towards penalties and keep continuing their habits while using their vehicles.
