Demand to cut dry branches, trees on Pump House Road
Srirangapatna: It is not only the pit on this stretch that has not been filled for days together causing danger to the people, but equally worrying are the branches of trees that are lined up on this road that have gone dry that is causing sleepless nights to the villagers here.
The trees lined on either side of the Pump House Road that leads to KRS is a beautiful sight not only because of its green cover but also because it gives much needed shade in this extremely hot season.
However, what is worrying is, because of summer, most of the branches are dry and can fall anytime, leading to disastrous consequences for the motorists and also pedestrians. In the recent rain accompanied by gusty wind, many trees were uprooted on this road. Hence, the Forest Department must take notice and take precautionary measures before any untoward incidents happens. Added to this, the road is full of potholes endangering the lives of farmers and students who move on the two-wheelers.
Since this is the holiday season and the road connects KRS, many vehicles take a diversion near Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary bypassing Mysuru Road to reach KRS. Thus, the density of traffic goes up. When this is the situation, the dry branches are posing danger to the lives of not only the tourists but also to the villagers in the area.
The villagers of the area have urged the Forest Department to cut the dry branches at the earliest and prevent a catastrophe from occurring.
Many tree branches on Pump House Main Road are dry and weak. Every day when the two-wheelers ply on this road there is a sense of anxiety. The Forest Department must immediately cut the dry branches and clear them. The Forest Department staff earlier bowing to the pressure of private players cut the trees that were not posing danger. Opposing this move, we had staged a protest but it proved futile. The Department now is dilly dallying to cut the dry branches. Only when lives of the people and animals are lost they will wake up, I think. — Belagola Sunil, Resident
