Mysore/Mysuru: A tumour weighing 7.5 kg has been removed through a surgical procedure from a 65-year-old man at K.R. Hospital in city recently.
The large tumour was removed surgically by Dr. B.N. Anandaravi, Professor and Head of General Surgery Department and his team comprising Dr. R.D. Manjunath, Assistant Professor, Department of General Surgery, Dr. Deepa, Anaesthesiologists Dr. V.Y. Srinivas and Dr. Malini.
The elderly patient was brought to K.R. Hospital with a very rare tumour (Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma), which is very aggressive and highly metastatic with the incidence rate being just one percent with fatality rate.
On examining the patient, the doctors found multiple benign lipomas over the abdominal wall which had turned into a malignant liposarcoma over a period of time.
This tumour was removed through a surgical procedure by Dr. Anandaravi and his team at K.R. Hospital. The doctors also performed left radical nephrectomy as intra-operatively involvement of the left kidney.
Dr. Anandaravi said that the patient was stable and recovering and expressed the need to create awareness among youngsters about increasing rate of cancer due to unhealthy food habits, environment pollution and hereditary causes besides stressing for change in lifestyle for a healthy life.
