Chamarajanagar: Wild animals trying to cross the barricades installed in forest borders to prevent them from entering human habitat in search of food and water has become common.
But one incident of a young tusker breaking through a railway barricade and entering human habitat has taken place in Bandipur Tiger Reserve Forest and the video has gone viral in social media. This apart, a video of a herd of elephants walking majestically on National Highway (NH) 209 has also gone viral on the social media.
To prevent wild elephants and other large wild animals from crossing the forest border, railway barricades have been installed at Hediyala Range in Bandipur, but the young tusker, in a bid to cross over to the other side of the barricades, tried to lift the barricade with its tusks and later crashed through it and entered the other side.
The tusker breaking through the railway barricades and entering the other side has been captured on a mobile phone and a retired forest official has shared the same on social media, which has gone viral.
Though elephants are considered as brainy animals, there are instances of them trying to cross the railway barricades and getting stuck between them, say wildlife conservationists.
Last month, an elephant trying to cross between the barricades had got stuck near Vasathi Halla village in H.D. Kote taluk. The stomach of the elephant was got stuck and unable to free itself, the elephant had suffered for hours.
