Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya’s house, opp. Senthil Kumar Textiles, Basaveshvara Circle, New Sayyaji Rao road, in city is playing host to two concerts on Saturday (July 1). The first concert will be a vocal duet by Vidu. Sushmita and Vidu. Madhumita, better known as Smita Sisters, from Hyderabad. They will be accompanied by Vid. S. Arunachala Karthik on violin.
In the concert to follow, Vid. Arunachala Karthik will present a solo violin recital. Percussion accompaniments for both the concerts will be provided by Skandan K. Bharadwaj on mridanga and Vid. Shamit Gowda on ghata, The programme, scheduled to start at 10 am, is open to all music lovers.
Smita Sisters, twin daughters of M. Padmanabhan of Nagercoil, hail from a family with rich musical traditions. Recipients of the Central Government Scholarship, they have learnt under the tutelage of the renowned violinist Poosarla Manorama. They are currently disciples of famed vocalist Vizianagaram D. Vardhani. Accredited with B-Grade from AIR Hyderabad, they have been performing senior level concerts at various popular Sabhas in Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere.
Vid. Arunachala Karthik has received advanced violin training from Vid. C.N. Chandrasekhar and Sangita Kalanidhi M.S. Gopalakrishnan. A 4-time recipient of IyalIsai Nataka Mandram Scholarship from Government of Tamil Nadu, he has also had training in vocal from Mangalam Shankar. A Computer Engineer by qualification, he is graded B-High in AIR.
Skandan, a disciple of Vid. Sai Shivu Lakshmikeshav, is a promising young artiste, while Vid. Shamit Gowda, a disciple of Vid. Shivashankar and Vid.Giridhar Udupa, is among the well-established young ghata artistes in the State.
