Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru South Police have arrested two members of a gang on charges of looting auto drivers by posing as passengers.
The arrested have been identified as Umesh, 23, of Kempisiddanahundi and Shivananda, 21, of Manchallihundi in Mysuru taluk, while four other members of the gang who were involved in the crime are absconding. The Police have recovered an auto and a bike used in the crime, from the arrested duo.
The accused used to hire autos and take them to isolated places where they assaulted and robbed the drivers of cash and other belongings before fleeing in the auto they had hired.
During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed on their involvement in five cases of robbery, two temple thefts and three two-wheeler thefts. With their arrest, the Police have cracked three cases in Nanjangud Rural, two each in Mysuru South and Varuna and one each in Biligere, Jayapura and Hullahalli Police Stations.
The Police have formed a team to nab four other accused who are on the run. The nabbing operation was carried out by Mysuru South Inspector M.L. Shekar and staff under the guidance of SP Seema Latkar, Additional SP Dr. B.N. Nandini and Dy.SP Poornachandra Tejaswi.
