Two-day music feast at Ganabharathi

Mysuru: Ganabharathi is organising a two-day music programme at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar on Dec.20 and 21.

On Dec.20 at 6 pm, Vidu. N.J. Nandini presents a vocal recital. She will be accompanied on violin by Vidu. Aditi Krishnaprakash, on mridanga by Vid. Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma and on kanjeera by Vid. Sunaad Anoor. This programme is organised in memory of Shrimathi Lalitha Raghavan.

N.J. Nandini is a vibrant young vocalist from Trivandrum. Hailing from a family of rich musical heritage, she has been nurtured over the years, by her eminent gurus, Prof. Parassala Ponnammal, Prof. P.R. Kumarakerala Varma, Dr. S. Bhagyalakshmi and Dr. M.N. Moorthy.

She is an ‘A grade’ artiste of AIR, Trivandrum. Winner of AIR music competition, Music Reality Show in Amrita TV, People’s Choice Awards in Jaya TV. She has toured extensively and performed in many prestigious Sabhas and has won many awards.

Vidu. Aditi Krishnaprakash is the disciple of Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy. She has made a name in Karnatak music circle. She has performed with many renowned artistes.

Vid. Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma is a veteran mrindanga player. He is adept in playing many other percussion instruments apart from mridanga.

Vid. Sunaad Anoor is a highly promising young artiste well-versed in playing kanjeera and has accompanied many renowned artistes.

Sthree Thala Tharang

On Dec.21 at 6 pm, Vidu. Sukanya Ramgopal, one of the leading percussionists of India, will present a novel percussion programme — Sthree Thala Tharang. This is the first time that a percussion instrument has come to occupy the centre stage in a Karnatak Concert. 

This Ghata Tharang Concert has been presented in many places in India and abroad including Dubai, Singapore, Switzerland, Bejing, Seoul etc. and has received roaring reception everywhere.

Vidu. Sukanya Ramgopal will play ghata and konnakkol in this unique programme. Vidu. Sowmya Ramachandran will play violin, Vidu. Vani Manjunath flute, Vidu. Lakshmi Pillai mridanga and Vidu. Bhagyalakshmi M. Krishna morching. 

The prog. is organised in memory of Malathi Parthasarathy. 

Profiles

Vidu. Sukanya Ramgopal is one of the frontline musicians of India and the first woman ghata artiste of the country. She had her training under T.R. Harihara Sharma. She then trained in ghata, under the able guidance of Harihara Sharma and later under Vikku Vinayakram. She is an ‘A Top’ grade artiste of All India Radio (AIR). She is also empanelled by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as an ‘Outstanding Artiste.’ Apart from many awards and titles, she received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for the year 2014. She was also conferred with TTK Award by Music Academy, Chennai.

Vidu. Sowmya Ramachandran started training in vocal first from her mother Raji Subbaraman and then from Balamani, Mumbai. She learnt to play violin from Shivakumar, Mumbai. She is a ‘B-High’ grade artiste with AIR, Bengaluru. She received ‘Best Violinist Award’ at The Music Academy and Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. Sowmya runs a music school ‘Sampradhaya’ where she trains many students both in vocal and violin.

Vidu. Vani Manjunath is a student of Vid. S.A. Shashashidhar, a renowned flutist and Prof. late H.V. Krishnamurthy, Founder of Vijaya College of Music, Bengaluru. She is now training under Vid. H.S. Sudheendra and has passed Vidwat with a first class. She is performing since thirty years.

Vidu. Lakshmi Pillai is the disciple of Padma Bhushan Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan. Daughter of Karnataka Kalasree Vid. GurumurthyThangavelu (mridangist), she hails from musicians family and is the great granddaughter of Vid. Krishna Pillai, who is the first Indian mridangist to tour abroad. She has performed extensively in India and abroad.

Vidu. Bhagyalakshmi M. Krishna is the daughter and disciple of ‘Morching Emperor’ Vid. Dr. L. Bhimachar. She is an ‘A’  grade artiste of AIR, Bengaluru. She has performed in all the leading Sabhas in India and abroad. Till date, she has performed in more than 1,500 concerts. She received ‘Ananya Yuva Puraskara’ in 2014 and ‘Best Senior Upapakkavadyam Award’ from Madras Music Academy in 2017.
